How many teeth do you have?

Child (20) vs. Adult (32)

Note that a child does not have pre-molars. The primary molars are replaced by the permanent pre-molars and the first permanent molar erupts distally to the second primary molar. The first permanent molar therefore does not replace a primary tooth, and neither does the second nor the third molar.

There are cases where some of the third molars and other teeth in adults do not erupt, making the total number of teeth in adults less than 32 .We also have cases where extra teeth (supernumerary teeth) erupt in the mouth, making the total number of teeth more than 32.
